Tapered straps start out wider at the lugs (the end that attaches to your watch) and narrow (taper) toward the direction of the tail and the buckle. While a “tapered” strap is one that tapers in width from the lugs to the buckle, i.e. 24mm/22mm (24mm wide at lugs by 22mm wide at buckle).
A straight strap is one that is the same width at the lugs and the buckle, i.e. 24mm/24mm (24mm wide at lugs by 24mm wide at buckle).
Inspired by the straps used by the IWC pilot watch series.
The lug width <A> and buckle width <B> sizes are given in millimeters. Width is the distance between the lugs, where the strap meets the watch. To determine your width, you can take a ruler or caliper, and measure the width of the part of the strap that uses spring bars / screws to attach to your watch case. Measure this in millimeters. Width is expressed, for example like this: 24/22 (24mm wide by 22mm wide). This first number (24mm) is the width of the strap between the lugs of the watch case. The second number (22mm) is the width of the strap at the buckle.
There are two lengths required, the buckle side <C> (length of short section, excluding buckle), and the Longside <D> (length of long section with holes).
The strap length suggestion is based on wrist size. To determine your wrist length, you can simply wrap a piece of string/thread around your wrist at the point where you normally wear your watch, mark the string where it crosses itself, lay it flat on a table and measure the distance between the marks. This is your wrist size.
You can simply measure your wrist with a tape measure or a piece of thread. With the thread option, wrap it around your wrist at the point where you would normally wear your watch. Then, lay the thread out flat and measure the distance from the end to your mark on the thread. Next, refer to the length size chart below and choose the size that corresponds with your wrist measurement.
If you measured your wrist and it turns out, for example, that your wrist is exactly 7" which falls at the end of the 6.6" - 7" size range, then definitely choose the strap size that your wrist measurement corresponds to in our size chart below, which in this case would be 125/75. There's no need to go up a size and there are no in between sizes.
The table below is a reference to help you decide your size length order.
5.6 - 6.0" wrist (142 - 152mm) = Longside 110mm - Buckle side 65mm
6.1 - 6.5" wrist (153 - 164mm) = Longside 115mm - Buckle side 75mm
6.6 - 7.0" wrist (165 - 178mm) = Longside 125mm - Buckle side 75mm
7.1 - 7.5" wrist (179 - 190mm) = Longside 130mm - Buckle side 75mm
7.6 - 8.0" wrist (191 - 203mm) = Longside 130mm - Buckle side 85mm
8.1 - 8.5" wrist (204 - 230mm) = Longside 135mm - Buckle side 85mm
Our straps are all hand stitched, and we use linen thread for Tapered/Straight straps and polyester thread for Pilot straps. The full range of colors that we stock can be seen below. We use thread in 0.50mm by default.
We offer various stitching patterns for customized straps including open, box, minimal and pilot style. Please note that the minimal stitching pattern is limited to non-padded strap body, and the pilot style stitching pattern is exclusive to pilot strap shape.
The body of the straps can be either padded or non-padded, depending on your own preference.
